Case Study: Suspected Interstitial Pneumonia in a British Shorthair Cat
Main Article Content
Abstract
Pneumonia is defined as inflammation of the pulmonary tissue. Hypertrophy refers to a condition characterized by an increase in the size of an organ or tissue due to the enlargement of existing cells. Hemorrhage is a condition involving the escape of blood from blood vessels, which may occur within body cavities or within tissues. Steatosis is the accumulation of lipid droplets within hepatocytes. The subject of this case study is a 2-month-old male British Shorthair cat named Abu, weighing 1 kg, presented with clinical signs of lethargy, anorexia, and dyspnea. Diagnostic procedures included tracheal swab sampling, macroscopic postmortem examination of internal organs, and histopathological analysis. Findings from the postmortem and histopathological examinations revealed pathological changes in the lungs, heart, brain, and liver. Based on these examinations, the cat was diagnosed with interstitial pneumonia accompanied by edema and emphysema, myocardial hypertrophy, cerebral hemorrhage, and hepatic steatosis.
